🦠 2020 🦠 review

2020 was my first full year of trading and it was challenging with the coronavirus, elections, artificial tech bubble by SoftBank, trade war, lockdowns and stimulus bill talks. Others were saying that experience-wise one year in this market should be counted as three and I can’t agree more! Thus, congrats to everyone whose account survived the turbulence.
🦠 2020 🦠 review
Some of my successful strategies from 2020:

1. FDA pre-PDUFA runs (top gainers #1 AQST, #4 ADMP). I use the following calendar https://www.biopharmcatalyst.com/calendars/pdufa-calendar to buy 2-3 months before the PDUFA date and sell about 3 weeks before the PDUFA date

2. Good earnings anticipatory run. I’m signed up for free “Most Anticipated Releases for the Week” emails from https://www.earningswhispers.com.

Email comes in on Saturday, I would make a list of tickers with high (70%+) earnings beat expectations

Buy the stocks on following Monday and sell before earnings are released. I never hold through the earnings announcement.

3. Forward split of desired stocks happened to be a very powerful catalyst (top gainers #2 TSLA, #3 AAPL). Don’t confuse it with reverse split that often causes further decline in price (see below).

4. Analyst upgrades https://www.marketbeat.com/ratings/upgrades/ and insiders buys https://www.marketbeat.com/insider-trades/ (most powerful: #1 CFO, #2 Other C-level (CEO, COO), #3 Board of directors, VP)

5. Momentum trading - buying breakouts for quick profit. High risk high reward strategy.

This was new for me. I learned from https://www.transparenttradersblackbox.com/?afmc=54 ($1 for the first month - don’t forget to cancel before the second month starts) - they give breakout price, stop loss, price target and also “walk” you through the trade by moving stop loss and telling to get out went the stock loses momentum:

I didn’t just follow blindly but analysed why they were giving certain price points.

Momentum trading is a whole new world. I will continue developing my skills around this strategy next year.

6. Technical analysis based trading: buy at support, sell at resistance or short at resistance, cover at support; trading reversals after a massive run up or sell off. If you are new to technical analysis, I highly recommend starting with this video:
